Holiday Cookies Round Up

One of my favorite parts about the Christmas season is baking! I love to bake and always have. Some of my earliest memories are of helping my dad in the kitchen. He always let me do the good jobs…like licking the spoon or taste testing.

Giving the gift of homemade goods, baked or otherwise, has always been a part of my family’s tradition. So, holiday baking holds a special place in my heart.

It’s a tradition I’ve continued since I left the nest. While my dad was famous for his 8 varieties of homemade biscotti, I’m still experimenting to find my perfect baked good to give away this time of year. While I’ve landed on cookies, I haven’t settled on the best kinds to spread holiday cheer.

This year, I went for a traditional favorite, a popular classic, and something near and dear to my heart. Let’s get into the holiday cookies I made this year!

First up, we’ve got chocolate chip cookies. They were not originally on my holiday baking list but Thomas requested them. So, on the list they went. Luckily, they’re pretty easy.

I use the Nestle Toll House Cookie recipe. The recipe is right chocolate chip bag. But it can also be found here!

Is there anything better?

Now for something a little more Christmas-y! These soft gingerbread white chocolate thumbprint cookies are amazing! I use this recipe from Sweet ReciPEAs. Instead of chocolate chips, I use white chocolate melting wafers because it’s easier.

These cookies will have even gingerbread haters asking you for the recipe. They’re that good.

Last but certainly not least, are these traditional Italian Anise Cookies. These are an acquired taste. But, if you grew up in an Italian household, you probably remember the herbal taste of anise well. The moment I open the anise extract I am transported back to my grandfather’s house. It’s a smell so familiar it brings me tears of joy.

Subtly sweet and beautiful to behold, these are one of my all-time favorite cookies. My dad, the holder of the recipes, is in Florida right now, so I used this one from My Sequined Life. I did make one swap - I used milk in my icing in place of water.

They came out beautifully and I can’t wait to share my heritage and childhood with my friends this year.

What is your favorite kind of Christmas cookie? Tell me all about them in the comments below.
