Home for the Holiday Sangria

Home for the Holiday Sangria

2020 has taken a lot of from all of us. One of those things that I have lost, is hosting. Hosting gathering for my friends - whether it be my pajama party Yankee swaps, Cinco De Mayo barbecue, or my girl’s only Whine and Cheese night, hosting is something that brings me joy. It sparks creativity and allows me to use the part of my brain that I don’t often to get to exercise in my health care career. It is one of the things that fills my cup to bring other people together, to cook for them, and to make memories.

Hosting parties is just not possible right now. Of all the sacrifices being made in this pandemic, this one is pretty small yet planning parties, bringing my ideas to life, and seeing my friends enjoy my work was my joy. And I’ve missed it. Especially this time of year when we would normally be together.

But, this platform allows me to share my creativity with you. And for that I will forever be thankful. So, I’m here to share with this holiday sangria. I purposely scaled the recipe down from my standard formula of 2 bottles of wine to 1 bottle of wine so that you can enjoy it with your household or just by yourself - because sangria gets better on day 2!

  1. In a pitcher, combine wine, Cointreau, juices, and fresh fruit.

  2. Stir well to combine.

  3. Let mixture set up the fridge for at least 4 hours to allow the flavors to really meld.

  4. When you’re ready to enjoy a glass, fill your cup with ice.

  5. Add the sangria mixture to the half way point.

  6. Fish out some of that lovely fruit for garnish.

  7. Top with seltzer water.

  8. Store the rest of the sangria mixture in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
